Dear Friends & Family,
As Captain of our amazing 'Compassionate Cohasset' team, thank you for your support! I encourage you to walk with our team on Mother's Day if that works for you. However, if not, please know your donation makes you an honored team member in spirit! This year's 2019 Mother’s Day Walk for Peace starts on Sunday, May 12 at Dorchester’s Town Field Park and ends at Boston’s City Hall!  We’re taking ‘The Walk’ city-wide again and it’s an amazing endeavor! For walkers who want to car pool please meet at the Cohasset Town Hall parking lot at 6:50 a.m. - the car pool will be leaving Cohasset by 7 a.m. Sunday morning. Margot Cheel will be leading the Cohassset team this year as I'll be attending my niece's graduation in NC. Margot's cell number is 339 236 0195 and Margot will have T-shirts for everyone! Please call or email me with any questions you might have ... and welcome to team "Compassionate Cohaset"!

In Peace & Service,
Connie Afshar

ABOUT 2019 Mother's Day Walk for Peace

Every year in the United States, approximately 15,000 people are murdered. For every homicide victim, there are at least 10 immediate people directly impacted by that loss. It is safe to say each year there are at least 150,000 new survivors of homicide victims dealing with the emotional, physical and financial stress of losing a loved one to a traumatic death such as murder. This is not including extended family members, classmates/colleagues, teachers/students, entire communities. Nor does this number include families who are impacted by a loved one committing a murder. Together we can heal and have an impact.

Rise Up! Walk with us.  The Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace started in 1996 so mothers of murdered children could receive support and love from their neighbors. Twenty-three years later, the Mother’s Day Walk continues to be a powerful way to honor our loved ones who have been murdered and embrace our partners in peacemaking. The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We hope you will help us raise our goal of $400,000 so we can continue to work to tip the scale toward justice for families and communities that are stigmatized by murder.

All walkers must register. Registration cost this year is $10 per walker, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration fees go to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to sustain our programs and services.
