Our team at Massachusetts General Hospital is proud to be a sponsor of the Mother’s Day Walk for Peace. Organized by the Peace Institute. The annual walk is a celebration of our commitment to create more peaceful communities. Families from across Massachusetts and around New England will walk together to demand dignity and compassion for all families impacted by murder.

Several programs within MGH are focused on supporting this critical work. The MGH Violence Intervention Advocacy Program (VIAP) consistently collaborates with the Peace Institute to serve families of murder victims. VIAP helps to support survivors with the physical, emotional, and financial stress they may face as a result of the loss of their loved one. The MGH Gun Prevention Coalition (GVPC) is a multi-disciplinary initiative dedicated to reducing morbidity and mortality from firearm-related violence and promoting safety in the homes and communities of the patients we serve through education, community engagement, and research. In these, and many other ways, our partnership with the Peace Institute aims to foster a hospital-wide commitment to dignity and compassion for all.

ABOUT 2019 MOTHER'S DAY WALK FOR PEACE

The 23nd Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace: “Dignity and Compassion for All”

The Mother’s Day Walk for Peace is a celebration of our potential to create more peaceful communities. Every year families from across the state and region walk together toward peace. Join us on Mother’s Day to demand dignity and compassion for all families impacted by murder.

The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We’re asking you to invest in community-based solutions to a complex problem. In 2019, our goal is to raise $400,000 for our critical programs and services.

Invest in peace this Mother’s Day - Sunday May 12, 2019!

ABOUT 2019 Mother's Day Walk for Peace

Every year in the United States, approximately 15,000 people are murdered. For every homicide victim, there are at least 10 immediate people directly impacted by that loss. It is safe to say each year there are at least 150,000 new survivors of homicide victims dealing with the emotional, physical and financial stress of losing a loved one to a traumatic death such as murder. This is not including extended family members, classmates/colleagues, teachers/students, entire communities. Nor does this number include families who are impacted by a loved one committing a murder. Together we can heal and have an impact.

Rise Up! Walk with us.  The Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace started in 1996 so mothers of murdered children could receive support and love from their neighbors. Twenty-three years later, the Mother’s Day Walk continues to be a powerful way to honor our loved ones who have been murdered and embrace our partners in peacemaking. The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We hope you will help us raise our goal of $400,000 so we can continue to work to tip the scale toward justice for families and communities that are stigmatized by murder.

All walkers must register. Registration cost this year is $10 per walker, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration fees go to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to sustain our programs and services.
