Welcome to our Mother's Day Walk for Peace Fundraising Page!
Beth Israel Lahey Health is proud to be a sponsor of the Mother’s Day Walk for Peace for the 5th year in a row!! Dr. Kevin Tabb, President and CEO, Beth Israel Lahey Health is co-chairing the Walk again this year, and both Dr. Tabb and Pete Healy (President, BIDMC), will serve as our hosts and lead Team BILH on Mother's Day. The Peace Institute and BILH's Center for Violence Prevention and Recovery consistently collaborate to serve families of murder victims in the Boston area. We have an innovative hospital-community partnership that ensures families are provided with continuity of care, not only while at our medical center but when they return to the community as well. BILH understands that in addition to medical and mental health care, families of homicide victims often require emotional and practical support to deal with the physical, emotional, and financial stress they face as a result of their loss. That kind of compassionate and coordinated response not only helps to interrupt cycles of violence but also helps families heal from generational trauma. The work that the Peace Institute does in the community is invaluable, and Beth Israel Leahy Health is proud to be both a community partner and corporate sponsor of the walk.
As of May 1,2019, we have 80 registered Team BILH walkers – join us as we RISE UP!

“Violence is not the problem of one neighborhood or group, and the response and solutions are not the responsibility of one sector of the community or of one agency, professional group, or business. Coming together and owning this problem and the solutions are central”
Every year in the United States, approximately 15,000 people are murdered. For every homicide victim, there are at least 10 immediate people directly impacted by that loss. It is safe to say each year there are at least 150,000 new survivors of homicide victims dealing with the emotional, physical and financial stress of losing a loved one to a traumatic death such as murder. This is not including extended family members, classmates/colleagues, teachers/students, entire communities. Nor does this number include families who are impacted by a loved one committing a murder. Together we can heal and have an impact.
Rise Up! Walk with us. The Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace started in 1996 so mothers of murdered children could receive support and love from their neighbors. Twenty-three years later, the Mother’s Day Walk continues to be a powerful way to honor our loved ones who have been murdered and embrace our partners in peacemaking. The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We hope you will help us raise our goal of $400,000 so we can continue to work to tip the scale toward justice for families and communities that are stigmatized by murder.
All walkers must register. Registration cost this year is $10 per walker, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration fees go to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to sustain our programs and services.
