Dear Family and Friends,

We are gearing up for the 23rd Annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace.

While it's been 11 years since Steven's life was tragically taken by gun violence, it's been 10 years that we have participated in this important unified community call to action.  The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute has been an important healing space for our family and I believe that it has been that for many other families.  Please help us by donating to sustain the work they do to activate the Peace Institutes 7 principles of peace:  Love, Faith, Hope, Unity, Courage, Justice, and Forgiveness.

Thank you in advance for supporting our SPOT for Life Team's efforts to raise $1,000 towards the overall $400,000 fundraising goal.

ABOUT 2019 Mother's Day Walk for Peace

Every year in the United States, approximately 15,000 people are murdered. For every homicide victim, there are at least 10 immediate people directly impacted by that loss. It is safe to say each year there are at least 150,000 new survivors of homicide victims dealing with the emotional, physical and financial stress of losing a loved one to a traumatic death such as murder. This is not including extended family members, classmates/colleagues, teachers/students, entire communities. Nor does this number include families who are impacted by a loved one committing a murder. Together we can heal and have an impact.

Rise Up! Walk with us.  The Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace started in 1996 so mothers of murdered children could receive support and love from their neighbors. Twenty-three years later, the Mother’s Day Walk continues to be a powerful way to honor our loved ones who have been murdered and embrace our partners in peacemaking. The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We hope you will help us raise our goal of $400,000 so we can continue to work to tip the scale toward justice for families and communities that are stigmatized by murder.

All walkers must register. Registration cost this year is $10 per walker, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration fees go to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to sustain our programs and services.
