Thanks for visiting my Mother's Day Walk for Peace fundraising page!
I joined the staff of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in December 2014 as Executive Assistant to the CEO, Tina Chery, and have since transitioned to an Administrative Coordinator role.
I walk for the LOVE of my friends who have lost loved ones to violence
In HOPE that one day mothers will not have to worry that their children are at risk of being murdered
With FAITH that we can continue to serve as providers of support, advocacy and training
To be in UNITY with community
In admiration of the COURAGE of survivors
With a belief that there is space for JUSTICE in our society
And with an ongoing desire to practice FORGIVENESS
I am daily inspired by the courage of all the staff who put hearts and souls into the work, families impacted by homicide who are working through the healing process, and all the people who have made a commitment to living peacefully.
On Mother's Day, I will proudly stand with this powerful community. This year's theme of "Rise up and Tip the Scale Toward Justice," is truly needed now. Please join in showing love and support by walking, forming a team, or making a donation through my page.
It is through the support of caring people that the healing work of the Peace Institute can be done. Please consider investing in peace. Every dollar makes an impact.
For my friends outside the Boston area, I encourage you to support this as well. I believe very strongly that this work translates to the larger global community; what is being done in Boston can have a ripple effect and inspire this work to be done in every community that needs healing.
Thanks for investing in the seven principles of peace: love, unity, forgiveness, faith, courage, hope and justice!
Every year in the United States, approximately 15,000 people are murdered. For every homicide victim, there are at least 10 immediate people directly impacted by that loss. It is safe to say each year there are at least 150,000 new survivors of homicide victims dealing with the emotional, physical and financial stress of losing a loved one to a traumatic death such as murder. This is not including extended family members, classmates/colleagues, teachers/students, entire communities. Nor does this number include families who are impacted by a loved one committing a murder. Together we can heal and have an impact.
Rise Up! Walk with us. The Annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace started in 1996 so mothers of murdered children could receive support and love from their neighbors. Twenty-three years later, the Mother’s Day Walk continues to be a powerful way to honor our loved ones who have been murdered and embrace our partners in peacemaking. The Mother’s Day Walk is also the Peace Institute’s most important fundraising event. We hope you will help us raise our goal of $400,000 so we can continue to work to tip the scale toward justice for families and communities that are stigmatized by murder.
All walkers must register. Registration cost this year is $10 per walker, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Registration fees go to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to sustain our programs and services.
